Microsoft giving each employee a Windows Phone 8 device, Surface RT tablet and Windows 8-refreshed work PCs

Microsoft held its annual employees meeting at the KeyArena in Seattle this week. GeekWire reports that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer took to the stage to announce that all 90,000+ full-time employees will be receiving a free Surface RT tablet, a Windows Phone 8 device, and a refreshed Windows 8 work machine each.
The Windows Phone 8 devices and Surface tablets can be used at home and work. The meeting was internal, so Microsoft is probably not going to make official announcement. Microsoft is accelerating the refresh cycle for employees' work computers to move everyone to Windows 8 machines made by their hardware partners. The normal refresh cycle at Microsoft is usually three years, so it would have been a surprise for the gathering 30,000 employees to hear that they will be getting new Windows Phone 8 devices when it's only been less than 2 years since receiving Windows Phone 7 phones. We doubt any of them will be complaining...
