Microsoft NOT building own Windows Phone devices

June 26, 2012 at 10:23 GMT | By Darlington Moyo

A Microsoft executive said the company has no plans to manufacture its own company-branded smartphones, denying recent reports indicating that they were ready to do so in order to kick-start sales of Windows Phone. Asked in an interview, Greg Sullivan, senior marketing manager for Windows Phone, said, "No, we do not. We have a strong ecosystem of partners that we are very satisfied with."

Sullivan's outright denial of plans to build a phone is significant in that Microsoft officials almost always issue a standard "no comment" when asked about industry rumours. As much we would like to see a Surface Phone (like the concept above), we realise how much it would hurt a committed partner like Nokia. Do you think Window Phone could benefit from a Microsoft-branded device?
